Presenting the First Week of the Italian Cuisine in China (21 – 27 November 2016)

Enhancing Italy’s culinary tradition as an integral part of the culture of the Country and hallmark of Italian way of life. Promoting the food quality to spread the values of environmental sustainability, fight against food waste and respect for food. Explaining, through our Cuisine, the richness of Italy’s lands, history and traditions.

These are the goals of the first Week of the Italian cuisine in China, presented this morning at the Auditorium of the Italian Institute of Culture (IIC), during a press conference organized by the Italian Embassy in China in cooperation with IIC, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China (ICCC).

The initiative will take place from November 21st to 27th . More than 70 events will be staged, all across China: from
Beijing to Shanghai, from Chongqing to Guangzhou, from Xi’an to Hong Kong.

A wide menu of events, to meet the tastes of all: cooking workshops, regional dinners, food design, film screenings, food and wine tastings, books presentations, and much more.

The initiative, a legacy of Expo Milano 2015, will be developed hand in hand with Italian chefs and a special testimonial: Chef Carlo Cracco, in Beijing November 25th and 26th .

Among the major events: special menus offered by Italian Restaurants of the chain “Italian Ospitality”, Food design by Antonello Fusetti and Stefano Giovannoni at Beijing Parkviewgreen, a journey through cuisine & cinema with Cristiano Bortone’s movie “Coffee” (first italo-chinese co-production), regional and thematic dinners, wine tastings, classes and awards, closing with the Gala
dinner of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China, with a special menu by Carlo Cracco.

“The Week of the Italian cuisine is a global event and a tool to promote Italian excellence and lifestyle. As part of this initiative, China plays a special role for the values linked to the food that we share and for the global presence of our respective Cuisines” said the Italian Ambassador to China, Ettore Sequi. “I am therefore particularly proud to announce that in China, thanks to the joint action of the Italian System, we will be able to offer one of the richest calendars of events in the world”. The first week of the Italian cuisine will explain that Italian Cuisine is loved and renowned around the world because it is good, healthy and cool” concluded Ambassador Sequi.

In March this year the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, in cooperation with the Ministers of Agriculture, Maurizio Martina, and Education, Stefania Giannini, launched the idea of The first Week of Italian Cuisine in the World to celebrate the exceptional richness of the Italian culinary heritage, through an extensive program of events designed to present Italy’s culinary flavors to millions of consumers worldwide. The event will bring in no less than 105 countries over 1,300 events dedicated to Italian cuisine and gastronomic qualities of the country.

The First Week of Italian Cuisine will present the value of a diet rooted in our culture and in quality of life. It is no wonder that the Mediterranean diet was recognized by UNESCO as part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. We not only intend to present the best of our food and wine productions abroad but also offer training by our Culinary Academies with a view to attract young
talents abroad and boost our high-quality culinary tourism. We are aware of the need to continuously innovate but are also proud of our history and culture and, in this case, our gastronomic culture! Follow us and our events!
