Minister Gentiloni visits Beijing

On September 2nd and 3rd, four months after his last visit, the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni took part in the commemorations organized by the Chinese Government for the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. Minister Gentiloni paid a tribute to the victims – Chinese and from other Countries – of the last world war, whose memory must be a constant reminder to help us avoid armed conflicts and to always seek dialogue to resolve disputes between states.

Minister Gentiloni also met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for an assessment of bilateral relations and their progress. He conveyed to his interlocutor the feeling of confidence expressed by the Italian business community in China on the country's ability to overcome the current economic situation. Gentiloni then called for the further strengthening of the bilateral partnership in terms of trade, investment and tourism flows, to be achieved in a balanced and mutually beneficial manner.

As a final point, the two Ministers had a broad exchange of views on major international issues, with particular emphasis on the impact of migration in Europe and in the Mediterranean and on cooperation between Italy and China at UN level.
